The new MK Schools Korfball League returns from October every Friday at Bletchley Leisure Centre from 4.00pm - 5.45pm.  This popular event will follow a similar format to last year with teams split by Key Stage ages competing against each other in a Grand Prix style event.  A series of dates will be issued to each school and they sign up for as many as they can attend.  A fair allocation of fixtures will be made is there is heavy demand.  On each date a mini tournament will be run and dependent on where the team finishes they will be awarded points.  So the more the team plays the more points they can earn.  The top two teams at season end will play each other in the grand final.  There is a fantastic prize of korfball equipment available for the winning school.

There will be tournaments for Lower Key Stage 2, Upper Keys Stage 2 and Key Stage 3.  Any schools wishing to compete should contact Darren Gray via Darren.gray88@me.com  Entries will be taken throughout the season but the earlier you sign up the more matches you get and the more points you can win.

Last year’s winners, Newton Longville School , received two new korfball posts and a full set of korfball shirts.

On 9th September a team of 42 korfballers from Milton Keynes clubs took part in the annual ‘Get On Your Bike Milton Keynes’ charity bike ride in aid of Cancer Research UK and MKX, our very own youth korfball development programme.

The course started near the Open University in Kents Hill and went through some of the prettiest and leafiest parts of the new city along the Ousel Valley to Willen Lake and beyond.

In total more than 250 riders participated but the largest group was from korfball.  Our team also demonstrated korfball and invited people to have a go at our sport.

The hope is to raise in the region of £2,000 for Cancer Research UK and £2,000 for MKX.  If you would like to donate please go to www.localgiving.com/mkxkorfball

Next year we will be back and hope to have 100+ korfballers riding.

In the last year korfball has raised in the region of £8,000 for good causes.  Why not join a sport and clubs that are community minded.

Wednesday night saw a sad goodbye and an end of an era with original Roo Jo Mutlow attending her last training session in MK. Jo came to the very first Roos training session back in 2007 and has been a regular ever since. Many of us have Jo to thank for working out what on earth this korfball business is all about courtesy of her ever patient on court instruction.

She will be sadly missed by Roos but we wish her all the best for her new life in Sheffield and hope to see her for a friendly with her new team very soon.

This Saturday night (29th) come along to Emerson Valley Sports Pavilion on Bowland Drive from 7.30pm for a great party with a live band, special guest beers and cider plus of course lots of lovely korfball girls and boys (especially the girls) and rugby players!

This is the first official korfball social of the year but all are welcome and cost is only £2.50 on the door.

The first social of the year for MK City clubs is Saturday 29th September at Emerson Valley Sports Pavilion .  There is a live band and hog roast organised by the rugby club.  Late September is a great time to have a social and welcome all the new members to our clubs.
